Chief Magadu Bhambatha, who was held responsible for the Impi Yamakhanda (poll tax) uprising that was popularly known as the Bambatha rebellion became chief of the AmaZondi people. Bhambatha succeeded to the throne after the death of his father and uncle, at the age of 25. He quickly established himself as a popular chief and earned the respect of the elders in the Amazondi traditional council.
