The Supreme Court of Zambia ruled that former Zambian president, Frederick Chiluba should stand trial for corruption

 The Supreme Court of Zambia ruled that former Zambian president, Frederick Chiluba should stand trial for corruption. The ruling came after Chiluba brought a case against the Zambian parliament for lifting his immunity from prosecution. A year earlier, Frederick Chiluba's successor, President Levy Mwanawasa, shocked the Zambian parliament when he introduced a motion that would remove presidential immunity protecting Mr. Chiluba from prosecution. An overwhelming majority of Parliamentarians voted in favour of this motion and Chiluba was subsequently charged with corruption and embezzlement of state funds.
