The South African Military History Society is established

5 October 1966
The South African Military History Society (SAMHS) was formed following an appeal by Commandant-General H.B. Klopper to all South Africans to take an interest in South Africa's military history. The object of the society was to help to further the interests of students of military history and the collection of military items of historical importance. It encouraged research into the history, traditions, uniforms, badges and other historical aspects of the armed forces of Southern Africa and, to a lesser extent, those of other countries. Membership was open to anybody interested. The joining fee was R1.00 and the annual subscription was R3.00 payable upon application.
