2 December 2004
The South African all-rounder, Shaun Pollock, became the only player in Test cricket history to have taken 300 wickets and score 3 000 runs. This milestone was reached on the fifth day of the second and final Test of South Africa’s match against their Indian counterparts in Calcutta, India. The 31-year old Pollock reached the batting landmark when he pushed Indian leg spinner Anil Kumble for a quick single to take his score to six. In spite of Pollock's accomplishments South Africa lost the test. The only other players to achieve double landmark included Kapil Dev of India, Ian Botham of England, Richard Hadlee of New Zealand and Imran Khan of Pakistan. Born on 6 July 1973, Pollock was part a family of cricket royalty. He is son of former cricketer Peter Pollock and nephew of the legendary Graeme Pollock. Pollock’s skills made him a bowling all-rounder. He captained the South African team from the year 200 to 2003. He retired from international cricket in 2008.
