SA actress, Ashley Callie dies

Actress Ashley Callie, most famous for her portrayal of Leonie Haines in the soap opera Isidingo, died on 15 February 2008. Callie was involved in a head on collision with another car. She suffered head injuries and underwent surgery the next day to relieve pressure on her brain. Though she was reported to be in a stable condition after the surgery, she passed away six days later. Callie studied drama at Wits University and held an honours degree in Dramatic Arts. She had won a South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) for best actress shortly before she died. She was posthumously awarded the Mzansi Star Actress Award on 29 February 2008.
