On this day, Riaan Cruywagen was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was educated at Stellenbosch University and where he obtained a BA degree. He began his career as a journalist in 1965 when he started working part time at the SABC in Cape Town. He is best known for his role as a news Anchor for the SABC Afrikaans news. He was also the SABC’s longest serving TV anchor since the first television broadcasts in 1975.
