Mother of an ANC Youth League official, is killed by a hand grenade

On 29 April 1992, Mrs Alinah Smith (52) of Sebokeng, Gauteng, was killed when a hand grenade exploded in her house. Mrs Smith was the mother of an African National Congress (ANC) Youth league official. According to sources, the hand grenade  was under the pillow on which Mrs Smith was sleeping. Mrs Smith died instantly.  Her daughter Nanki as well as her granddaughter Winnie were injured in the blast, as they were also sleeping in the room. The injured were taken to the Sebokeng Hospital.
