Kaiser Matanzima of Transkei announces his intention to retire from the Presidency

President Kaiser Matanzima of Transkei announced his intention to retire from the Presidency in February 1982, to devote more time to traditional and family affairs. However, in 1986 Matanzima was forced by the South African government to retire from the presidency. He was succeeded by his brother George Matanzima, who resigned after it was revealed that he was guilty of corruption. Matanzima died in 2003 in Queenstown at the age of 88.
