Dr Ernst Gideon Malherbe, SA educationist, is born in Luckhoff, OFS.

Dr Ernst Gideon Malherbe was born on 8 November 1895 at Luckhoff. He studied at the Stellenbosch University and the University of Columbia and was a founding member of the National Commission of Education and the Bureau of Educational and Social Research. Malherbe later became the principal of the the University of Natal. He is considered one of the great educators to emerge from South Africa. He died in Durban in 1982.
