Additional Date: July 19, 1979
Dr. E. Rhoodie was arrested at the French Riviera resort Juan les Pins. He would appear in Aix-en-Provence for extradition proceedings on 31 July 1979. This followed the receipt of extradition documents from the South African government. Rhoodie was one of the key players in the 1978-79 ‘Information Scandal’. He served as the Secretary of the Department of Information from 1972, while Dr Connie Mulder was Minister of the department. On 13 January 1979 the South African government froze the South African assets of Rhoodie following the Erasmus Commission's Report of 1978. The government is also reported to have seized secret funds deposited in private accounts outside the country.
