The African National Congress welcomes the appointment of Cde Mac Maharaj, a veteran and stalwart of our movement, as President Jacob Zuma’s spokesperson.

As a seasoned leader, negotiator and former minister, Cde Mac will bring wealth of experience into his new responsibility. He played a leading role in the negotiation processes which led towards South Africa’s first democratic elections and government. He also served as a Minister of Transport under President Nelson Mandela Cabinet.

Politically, Cde Mac served as the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member and the South African Communist Party (SACP) Central Committee member. He is currently President Jacob Zuma’s special envoy, a member of the Zimbabwe facilitation team and represents President Zuma on the G20 infrastructure working group.

With his skills, knowledge and dedication, the ANC is certain that Cde Mac will execute his responsibilities with diligence and that he will continue to serve the people of South Africa with utmost dedication.
