Curnick Ndlovu was the secretary of the South African Congress of Trade Unions (SACTU) and a member of the African National Congress (ANC). He was a leader of the National Regional Command of uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK). He was also actively involved in trade union movements and eventually became an active organizer of the South African Railways and Harbour Union which was linked with the SACTU. He became instrumental in exposing agents sent by the government to disrupt anti-apartheid activities in the trade union movement and this led to his arrest in June 1963. Ndlovu was arrested with many other MK members and trade unionists, among them were Billy Nair, Bruno Mtolo, Eleanor Kasrils and 14 others. They stood accused of more than 30 acts of sabotage in the Natal Province (now KwaZulu Natal), the possession of explosives and the recruitment of military trainees. He was sentenced 20 years in jail in 1964 and served his time on Robben Island. He was released in 1983 and eventually became the National Chairperson of the United Democratic Front (UDF).
