Alexander Kerr, educationist, church leader and the first principal of the South African Native College (later the University of Fort Hare), was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland. The Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa started the Dr Alexander Kerr Bursary Fund in his memory to provide financial assistance in the form of bursaries to Black students.
